Orca’s mission is to become the leading provider of financial primitives on Solana. We see a future where a meaningful percentage of the world’s financial transactions is powered by CLAMMs and other Decentralized Finance (DeFi) products. We’re looking to hire a tech lead to accelerate our progress towards that vision.

As a team of senior contributors, we’re comfortable working around the stack but tend to be experts in a particular area. We’re looking for a technical specialist who is excited to lead a team to build out our backend services and infrastructure.

What you’ll do

  • Oversee quality assurance and performance: Ensure the overall reliability and performance of a complex software system. This includes managing aspects related to a high throughput blockchain, SQL database integrations, and a high-traffic web application.
  • Deep Understanding of Technical Stack: Maintain a comprehensive understanding of our entire software stack, requiring expertise in blockchain technology, finance, and consumer applications. Use this knowledge to guide strategic decisions and troubleshoot complex issues.
  • Lead Technical Problem-Solving: Take charge in resolving challenging technical problems. This involves understanding and weighing various engineering best practices, considering different trade-offs, and guiding the team towards effective solutions.
  • Define and Enforce Engineering Standards: Establish and enforce high standards for code quality, testing, and maintainability. Ensure the team adheres to best practices in software development and stays updated with emerging technologies.
  • Risk Management and Decision Making: Assess potential risks in the software development process and make informed decisions to mitigate them. Balance short-term needs with long-term goals, considering the implications of technical choices.
  • Contribute to Technical Architecture: Play a key role in shaping the technical architecture of Orca's software solutions. Influence the direction of the platform's development by providing insights and recommendations based on your technical expertise.

What You'll Bring:

  • Technical Expertise: The ability to gain a deep understanding of the entire tech stack, from the intricacies of blockchain technology to the complexities of SQL query optimization. You should be deeply familiar with these technologies or demonstrate the ability to quickly master them.
  • Proficiency in Rust or Quick Learner: Whether already proficient in Rust or capable of rapidly acquiring proficiency, you have a strong foundation in programming languages used in high-performance computing. Your adaptability to new technologies is key.
  • Leadership and Decision-Making Skills: You have the ability to earn the respect and trust of senior engineers. Your expertise enables you to make informed, non-trivial technical decisions, considering various variables and their impact on the project and team.
  • Passion for DeFi and Crypto Growth: You are not just interested in DeFi but are genuinely excited about the future of cryptocurrency and its potential to become a more significant part of the global economy over the next decade. This enthusiasm is a driving force in your career.
  • Demonstrated Track Record in Relevant Fields: You have experience working with high-performance services, preferably in finance or a related industry. Your background showcases your ability to handle complex, scalable systems effectively.
  • Strong Communication Skills: Your communication skills are exemplary. You can articulate complex ideas clearly and concisely, ensuring understanding among diverse teams. You also value listening and creating space for others to share their ideas and perspectives.
